A rare 17th century masterpiece
The Architectural Splendor of a Renaissance Castle
La Place des Vosges
The castle encapsulates the features of what a Renaissance castle must look like: with a typical emphasis on symmetry, proportion, geometry and the regularity of parts. The brick facade is ornate in the style of Louis XIII architecture, the very same style that one can see in Paris in the world famous La Place des Vosges.
The castle dominates the servants quarters building which was also completely rebuilt in the 17th century and it is flanked by two medieval towers on both sides.
The first medieval tower has been transformed into a chapel since the 17th century and is dedicated to Ste Cecilia, the saint patron of the eyes as there has been a spring flowing on its ground.
This fresh water source was famous since the Roman time for curing the blinds and helping with all the trouble or pain related to the eyes.
The second tower which used to be a dove house, a sign of wealth in the past centuries, is now transformed into a nuptial house, isolated from the rest of the castle for honeymooners.
The holm oak nearby gives the feeling that you are living in a tree house, far away from the bustle of the 21 st century. Here you are truly at peace, connecting with nature.
